Where’s Windang?

Located 90 minutes’ drive from Sydney, Windang is a popular recreational fishing village with a rich history. It’s the last suburb of Wollongong where Wollongong and Shellharbour council areas meet at beautiful Lake Illawarra. Windang is home to both beach and lake. And it has significant meaning to the local Illawarra Indigenous culture. Windang means “scene of a fight” and was rumoured to be the place where locals met to fight out their disputes before rekindling their friendship over an afternoon of fishing. Many Illawarra locals know Windang from the ear-worm jingle from Computertown. It’s also home to Club Windang, a popular meeting spot for bowlers, locals, and music enthusiasts alike. If we meet in person, it will no doubt be at the sensational Oh Dang Espresso that serves White Horse coffee. Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, bring the office dog and we’ll head to Perkins beach off-leash exercise area!

You can travel to Windang via the Premier Illawarra bus routes 37, 43, 51, 53 & 57 on the Berkeley, Warrawong & Port Kembla District bus timetable. It’s also an easy drive 15 minute drive from Wollongong CBD or 25 minutes from Kiama.
