Social media marketing Sydney and disaster plan support for major festival

Background:

Offering social media marketing Sydney and beyond is what Unashamedly Creative does.

Wine Island is a Sydney based festival attracting over 50K in website visitors, national interest and tourism dollars. It runs for 4 days on the National Parks and Wildlife run, Clark Island. This award winning festival debuted in 2015 and was back in 2016. In 2016, the program was expanding to feature a trade style day as well as welcome additional stalls and activities.

Unashamedly Creative was asked to help support the social media and in particular, build a specialised social media project plan inclusive of a disaster plan.

Objective:

The aim of the social media marketing Sydney and beyond was to:

  • Properly identify the audience and area for sharing social media content
  • Cover off key areas of content that may need extra explanation via social media, the blog and newsletter channels
  • Formulate stand out mini social media projects for areas such as countdown to ticket sales, closure of trade style tickets and the actual Wine Island event itself
  • Create social media marketing Sydney punters would be interested in engaging with in an increasingly competitive festival and events market
  • Ensure that potential disasters were met with responsive, not reactive, marketing

Execution:

The social media project involved building a robust and tailored content marketing plan. This included (but was not limited to):

  • Identifying the key audience against times within the project lifecycle as well as against calendar days that may be relevant for celebration – e.g. long weekends, sporting events and so on
  • Developing a cycle of content required based on the lifecycle of the festival
  • Mapping out the various approaches and assets for these key lifecycle points as their own separate content and social media project
  • Providing newsletter sample copy for each of these points
  • Creating a robust disaster plan to accompany the marketing that covered assets for internal staff, stakeholders, sponsors and stall holders as well as direct to consumer messaging
  • Ensuring this disaster plan included things such as changes to the festival format and pricing scale, cancellations due to weather, responses to sell outs of the tickets and even community backlash related to perceived issues with the event (e.g. use of a national park, noise, lock out laws and other topical key points of the time)

Results:

The social media project plan and disaster elements were delivered on time and to specification. Unashamedly Creative was further asked to activate the elements and help support their delivery for the lead in to the festival.

Wine Island was once again a sell out event. It attracted over 70K visitors to the website and the social media projects such as 12 days of Wine Island during the countdown to the event, profiling the various stall holders and musical playlist competitions were a hit with punters.

Social media marketing Sydney wise was strong, but it also gave the client the opportunity to prove there was interest from other Australian cities and overseas for the event. This is something that may help with future plans for the Wine Island festival brand.

The Disaster plan was used to good effect when the event sold out and again when the Sunday session of the event was cancelled due to foul weather and rough seas without incident.
